What a recruiter can do for you as a business looking to hire?
Finding talent isn’t easy, and if you’re in a position that requires you to grow a team, you will know this all too well. The simple fact that hiring is a complex and difficult process and one of the reasons that recruitment is an industry worth billions (yes, really).
Many businesses understand that the time required to find the right person for a job can be incredibly costly, therefore they make the wise choice to outsource this task to a 3rd party recruitment agency. A common misconception is that the only interaction between the business and the recruiter is the discussion of candidates and hiring, when in fact there is so much more that can be done!
In this post, we wanted to run through a couple of the potential additions that a good recruiter could add to your company:
- Help you implement/manage an ATS:
If you’re a growing business with lots of candidates in the pipeline, congratulations! Now the next thing to do is make sure that the pipeline is being managed effectively, such as candidates receiving updates, and interviews being organised efficiently. The best tool for managing this side of things is an ATS (Applicant Tracking System), of which there are plenty on the market. A recommendation from our side would be Workable, but of course there are many to choose from based on your needs.
If your hiring budget is purely focused on paying candidates and recruiters, then potentially ask your recruiter for assistance. Here at Digitech, we have a feature built into our database that can function as a basic ATS, and this is something that a few of our clients (especially those with a tighter budget) are very appreciative of! Overall, an ATS is an invaluable tool to have when hiring, and any excellent recruiter you work with will be able to make sure you are getting the best out of it.
- Improving the interview process:
Feedback is key, not only for candidates, but also for the companies that are hiring. Having a pleasant hiring process is key for finding the top-level talent that your team requires, and sometimes the best way to improve this process is to take a look at any potential constructive criticisms.
A key part of what recruiters do, is take feedback from candidates after they have had an interview. This conversation allows the candidate to express themselves a little more freely than they might do in an interview, and therefore it can give an insight into any potential concerns they might have with the process. Understanding what people may not like is important for making positive changes to your hiring process, which in turn improves your standing as an employer and creates a positive brand image. It all starts with communicating effectively with your recruiter!
- Understanding the market and trends:
Sometimes it can be easy to become too focused on what’s happening within your company, and lose sight of numerous external factors. Having a strong understanding of the market is important for any company to stay ahead of their competitors, and speaking to recruiters frequently is an A+ way to stay in the loop.
Many top-level recruiters have a specific area or industry in which their network is focused, and as such they will be having many conversations with people who are heavily involved in this industry. Recruiters being a part of these circles allows them to pick up on market trends, such as companies in your industry who may be adopting a new technology, or developing interesting ways to improve employee satisfaction. Purely by virtue of being a close connection of your recruiter, you will be able to passively learn information that could eventually prove very valuable, either via social media such as LinkedIn, or during conversations with your recruiter.
Overall, it is always worth considering what extra benefits a good external recruiter could bring to your business. Having a good relationship with your recruiter benefits both you and them, and it means more than just getting excellent profiles, there’s so much more they can do for you!
